In a decisive move towards enhancing development across Abia State, Governor Alex Otti today signed the Greater Ohafia Development Agency (GODA) Bill into law. The establishment of GODA, a specialized agency focused on the Northern Senatorial District, signals Governor Otti's unwavering commitment to socio-economic progress and equitable growth across all regions of the state.

Governor Otti, speaking shortly after signing the bill, expressed optimism that GODA would serve as a catalyst for rapid development in the region. He noted that the new agency will provide an institutional framework to effectively channel resources and implement initiatives aimed at transforming Northern Abia, particularly the Ohafia region. "The creation of Greater Ohafia Development Agency is a major stride in our promise to deliver meaningful development to all parts of Abia, and we believe this agency will effectively address the unique needs of our Northern communities," Otti stated.

The signing ceremony, held at the Abia State Government House, saw attendance from key officials, including the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Ikechukwu Uwanna, and the Senior Special Assistant on Legislative Affairs, Hon. Luke Ukara Onyeani. They lauded the Governor's action, emphasizing GODA's role in fulfilling the administration's commitment to fostering inclusive growth in Abia State.

Governor Otti also announced the formation of Greater Ohafia Development Agency's board to steer the agency's operations, with Professor Awa Kalu, SAN, as Chairman, alongside Engr. Obinna Odum as Director General, with Dr. Onyinye Rufus-Obi, Surv. Ike Orika and Chief Johnson Chukwu as members. This board, he said, will drive GODA's vision, overseeing projects and policies tailored to boost infrastructure, create jobs, and uplift the standard of living across the Northern Senatorial District.

Abia's Northern region has long advocated for initiatives focused on local development, with citizens and political leaders calling for investments to boost economic activity and infrastructure.
