Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has once again left political observers and critics stunned as he reeled out a fresh wave of audacious development milestones, many of which are being executed without the burden of borrowing. During his April 30, 2025 monthly press engagement, broadcast live on AF Television, Otti provided a sweeping overview of his administration's performance, outlining his vision for health, education, infrastructure, and fiscal discipline.
 Health Sector Transformation: 103 PHCs Upgraded, 771 New Workers Coming
Governor Otti announced that 103 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) out of the 200 awarded for renovation and facility support have already been completed and fully equipped, marking a crucial step toward delivering accessible quality healthcare across Abia State.

He further disclosed that 771 new health workers, including doctors, nurses, and technicians, will be recruited imminently, with financial provisions already secured to ensure prompt remuneration. According to the Governor, this move aims to strengthen the workforce ahead of the launch of the Abia Medical City, a flagship project aimed at curbing medical tourism.

In what could become a game-changing health infrastructure milestone, Otti revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will visit Abia on May 29, 2025, to flag off the Abia Medical City Project, a $1.3 billion mega-healthcare complex designed to stem the tide of medical tourism by offering world-class treatment within the state.
ƒôÜ Education Revolution: 9,000 Teachers in Total, New Hostels and Faculties for ABSU
Following the recruitment of 5,000 teachers, Governor Otti disclosed that an additional 4,000 teachers have been approved for recruitment. This, he said, is in response to a surge in student enrolment across public schools due to improved learning infrastructure and confidence in public education.

At the tertiary level, the Governor announced the ongoing construction of a 5,000-bed hostel at Abia State University, Uturu, alongside new faculty buildings for Law and Agriculture, and the rehabilitation of dilapidated hostels, all geared toward improving student accommodation and academic experience.

One of Aba's most iconic but neglected roads-Port Harcourt Road-is set for a historic comeback. Governor Otti stated that the road reconstruction will be completed next week and commissioned by President Tinubu on May 29, as part of the state's Democracy Day celebrations.

In a major boost to the ongoing Abia International Airport project, Governor Otti announced that the Federal Government has approved funds for perimeter fencing of the airport. He added that construction of the runway is already in progress, signaling the state's readiness to open up air travel and global connectivity.
ƒÆ© Fiscal Discipline: Otti Pays Ôéª70bn Debt, Borrows Nothing
Taking a swipe at past administrations, Otti stated boldly that his government has not borrowed a single naira since inception. Instead, the administration has focused on cutting down the debt burden, and the Debt Management Office (DMO) confirms that over 70 billion has been paid from the 138.64 billion debt inherited from the previous government.
