The political landscape of Abia State witnessed a major shake-up as Hon. Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson, the Honourable Member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Labour Party.

Hon. Johnson made the announcement during an exclusive interview on FOCAL POINT, a popular current affairs programme on AF Television, anchored by veteran journalist, Emenike Iroegbu.

Describing his defection as a strategic and people-centered decision, Hon. Lucky Johnson declared that the PDP, which once had significant influence in Isuikwuato, is now a "shadow of itself."

"I am the big masquerade of the PDP in Isuikwuato. Now that I have left, the party is empty. PDP is nothing to write home about in Isuikwuato today," the lawmaker stated.

He attributed his departure to unresolved internal crises within the PDP, both at the national and state levels. According to him, instead of focusing on governance and people-oriented policies, the PDP has become entangled in leadership tussles and distractions.

Hon. Lucky Johnson emphasized that he joined the Labour Party to support the transformational leadership of Governor Alex Otti, whom he described as a visionary leader changing the face of Abia.

"Isuikwuato has never had it this good. You can now get to Akara Junction from Umuahia in less than 10 minutes because of the road the governor constructed. The road to Nunya is also ongoing. Every ward in Isuikwuato has at least one active project courtesy of this government," he revealed.

He noted that beyond infrastructure, the administration of Governor Otti has also restored peace and security in the area.

"Since this government came on board, the issue of kidnapping and insecurity has disappeared. People now go to bed in peace," he added.

Hon. Johnson assured constituents that more projects were on the way, disclosing that the lingering Acha Road challenge would soon be resolved, with a major project flag-off expected soon.

Addressing the internal PDP attacks following his defection, the lawmaker threw a bold challenge:

"If they think they are popular in Isuikwuato, let them initiate a recall process instead of wasting time in court."

Speaking further, Hon. Johnson dismissed concerns over the resignation of some individuals from his foundation, clarifying that the Lucky Johnson Foundation is an apolitical NGO that continues to support the welfare of Isuikwuato people irrespective of political affiliations.

"My foundation is not political. It is a humanitarian platform, and people know that. Their resignation means nothing. I've gained more followers since joining Labour Party and now enjoy peace of mind."

He called on sons and daughters of Isuikwuato to prioritize development and unity over political bitterness, urging them to invest in the LGA and support good governance.

"Today, if you speak against Governor Otti in public, you may be mobbed. That's how much love the people have for him. On April 17, a major crowd will join me as I'm officially welcomed into the Labour Party. More is coming."

The defection of Hon. Lucky Johnson has sparked political ripples, with many seeing it as a huge loss for the PDP in Abia State, particularly in Isuikwuato, where he remains one of the most influential figures.
