President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for immediate and decisive action following the gruesome killing of twelve wedding guests in a mob attack in Plateau State, describing the incident as a national tragedy and a threat to Nigeria's constitutional freedoms.
The victims were travelling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Quan Pan Local Government Area of Plateau for a wedding ceremony when their vehicle was intercepted and attacked by a mob in Mangun District of Mangu LGA on Friday. Twelve people were killed in the horrific attack while eleven others sustained serious injuries.

Reacting strongly to the development in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu condemned the attack and tasked the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, with leading efforts to unravel the root causes of the recurring violence and ensure that those behind it face the full weight of the law.

"The government of Plateau State must take decisive action in handling these vicious cycles of violence,ÔÇØ Tinubu declared, warning that "freedom of movement by all citizens is non-negotiable.ÔÇØ
The President described the attack as barbaric and unacceptable, emphasizing that such actions are not only criminal but also undermine the unity and peace of the nation.
He charged the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and other security and intelligence agencies to act swiftly in apprehending the perpetrators, promising that the Federal Government will not rest until justice is served.
"We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear,ÔÇØ Tinubu stated, vowing that no one involved in the killings would go unpunished.

President Tinubu also extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the survivors, and the governments and people of both Kaduna and Plateau States, assuring them that the Federal Government stands with them in grief and will see to it that those responsible are brought to book.

This call by the President comes amid rising tensions in Plateau State, which has witnessed several instances of communal unrest in recent years, often fueled by religious and ethnic tensions.
