Nigeria's worsening security crisis took a dramatic turn on Monday after former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Lucky Irabor (retd.), made a shocking revelation that some politicians are actively funding or exploiting terrorism to gain political mileage.

Irabor, speaking during an interview on Channels Television, described the country's insecurity as a "multi-layered criminal enterpriseÔÇØ with clear evidence that certain political figures deliberately sponsor or escalate violence to create chaos that benefits their ambitions.

His revelation comes barely 24 hours after Presidential aide Daniel Bwala announced that the Federal Government was preparing to name and shame prominent Nigerians involved in financing terrorism - a move that has already sent shockwaves across the political class.

Irabor warned Nigerians against assuming that insecurity is driven by a single ideology, insisting that terrorism in Nigeria is a blend of political, criminal, ideological, ethnic and economic motivations. However, he noted that the political dimension has been strategically downplayed.
