How Security Forces Foiled Deadly Abuja Bank Robbery

Security operatives successfully thwarted an armed robbery at a First Bank branch in Abaji, Abuja, resulting in the deaths of several robbers and a police officer.

In a dramatic confrontation, operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command and their military counterparts successfully foiled a bank robbery at a First Bank branch and an attack on a police divisional headquarters in the Abaji Area Council. The simultaneous attacks by 15 armed robbers, who used dynamites, led to an intense gun battle.

The FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, reported that three armed robbers were killed, three suspects were arrested, and others fled with injuries. The arrested suspects include Usman (surname unknown), Nuhu Musa, and Muhammed Aminu. During the clash, a police officer and the gang leader succumbed to bullet wounds.

"A swift response led by CP Benneth Igweh repelled the attack. Security forces engaged the robbers in a fierce gun duel, forcing them to flee," Adeh stated. A mob at the scene set an unidentified suspect ablaze after being neutralized by security forces.

As the search continues for the fleeing robbers, Adeh emphasized the command's commitment to maintaining safety in the FCT, ensuring it remains uninhabitable for criminals.
