How Seven Community Leaders Were Killed in Imo State Gunmen Attack

Unknown gunmen attacked a meeting in Umucheke Okwe, Imo State, killing seven community leaders. The motive remains unclear, leaving the community in fear and mourning.

In a tragic turn of events, unknown gunmen brutally attacked the Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State on Saturday night, resulting in the deaths of seven community leaders. The victims included the President General of the community and six village heads, who were gathered for a weekly meeting.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants opened fire indiscriminately, targeting the assembled leaders during their meeting at the President General's shop, located in the community market. The sudden onslaught left no survivors among the community leaders present. After carrying out the heinous act, the gunmen set the location ablaze, further compounding the tragedy.

A local resident, speaking under the condition of anonymity, described the horrific scene: "The gunmen arrived and immediately started shooting. They killed the President General and six village heads before setting the place on fire. It's a devastating loss for our community."

The motive behind this violent act remains unclear, leaving residents and authorities puzzled. The source noted, "Nobody understands the reason for the assault. The purpose of the meeting was just a regular gathering, nothing out of the ordinary."

The community is now in a state of shock and fear, with many villagers fleeing their homes in panic. The atmosphere is tense, and the once-bustling area has become eerily deserted.

As of the time of this report, the Imo State Police Command has not officially commented on the incident. Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, were unsuccessful as his phone remained switched off.
