The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has formally summoned Africa's richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, to appear before a panel of investigators in Abuja following a far-reaching petition he filed against the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.

The summons, scheduled for Monday, signals the commencement of a high-stakes corruption probe that could shake Nigeria's petroleum regulatory framework and deepen scrutiny on the conduct of top public officials in the oil and gas sector.
According to sources within the Commission, the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Aliyu, SAN, personally approved the constitution of a special investigative panel to handle Dangote's petition, underscoring the gravity of the allegations raised by the business mogul.

Investigators say Dangote is expected to appear in person or be represented by his legal counsel, Ogwu Onoja, SAN, to formally submit documentary and testimonial evidence backing his claims. The ICPC has made it clear that the probe will be evidence-driven, with Dangote's petition forming the central focus of the investigation.

In his petition, Dangote accused the former NMDPRA boss of corruption, abuse of office, and living far beyond lawful earnings. Among the most controversial claims is the allegation that Farouk Ahmed spent over $7 million funding the education of his four children in elite private schools in Switzerland, allegedly without verifiable sources of legitimate income.

Dangote further alleged that the former regulator undermined Nigeria's domestic refining efforts, accusing Ahmed of colluding with foreign traders and oil importers by repeatedly issuing import licences-actions that, according to the petition, weakened local refining capacity and distorted the downstream market.
Although Farouk Ahmed has since resigned his position as head of the NMDPRA, the ICPC insists that his exit from office does not shield him from accountability. Officials of the anti-graft agency emphasized that resignation does not terminate criminal liability where allegations of corruption and misappropriation are involved.

Dangote is reportedly demanding the arrest, investigation, and prosecution of the former NMDPRA boss, arguing that public service must not be a cover for unexplained wealth or conduct that sabotages national economic interests.

Confirming the development, ICPC spokesperson John Okor Odey disclosed that the Commission received the formal petition on December 16, 2025, through Dangote's legal representatives and has since activated the statutory process for investigation.
Political and industry observers say the probe could become a defining test for Nigeria's anti-corruption institutions, particularly at a time when transparency and accountability in the oil and gas sector remain under intense public scrutiny.
