IPAC Chairman Uluocha Urges Full Voter Participation and Upholds Peace in Abia Local Government Elections

In a recent press briefing held on October 31, 2024, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Abia State, Comrade Chimex Uluocha, emphasized the importance of citizen engagement in the upcoming November 2 local government elections. Uluocha, who also serves as the State Chairman of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), encouraged Abians to participate actively in the democratic process and commended Governor Alex Otti for his commitment to electoral transparency by refraining from influencing the election.

Reflecting on the IPAC's commitment to a peaceful electoral atmosphere, Uluocha revealed that political parties in Abia had agreed to a peace accord, promoting issue-based campaigns devoid of violence. He attributed the peaceful atmosphere of the campaigns thus far to IPAC's proactive stance and emphasized that any party found engaging in misconduct would be duly sanctioned. "The unity and cooperation demonstrated are testaments to the political maturity in Abia,ÔÇØ he stated.

Uluocha also called on security agencies present, including the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), to handle the electorate with civility, ensuring a peaceful environment free from incidents of brutality or harassment. He reminded security agencies of their role in safeguarding democracy, emphasizing the need for professionalism.

Addressing recent concerns about the actions of Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, a federal lawmaker representing Aba North and South, who was allegedly involved in an incident of harassment against a Bolt driver in Abuja, Uluocha expressed disappointment. He announced that IPAC would establish a disciplinary committee to investigate the case, underlining that such behavior does not align with the values of responsible governance and public service.

In closing, Uluocha reiterated his call for fair play in the election, urging all political actors to respect the integrity of the electoral process and allow citizens to freely determine their leadership at the local government level.
