IPOB: How Nnamdi Kanu Can Be Released From Custody- Ike Ekweremadu Reveals

A former deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has revealed that dialogue remains the best approach to ensure the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Ekweremadu said this in an interview on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, with Arise TV, and monitored by ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER, noting that efforts were on ground to secure Kanu's release from custody.
He cited the release of the founder of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph uwazuruike, who was arrested in 2005, in his hometown and remanded in the Department of State Services (DSS) underground cell in Abuja.

Ekweremadu noted that it was also dialogue that saw to the release of Uwazuruike.

Recall that Uwazuruike who was charged for treason, was detained for two years after a protracted bail hearing at the Federal High Court, Abuja. Justice Binta Nyako eventually granted him three-month bail to enable him bury his mother who had died during his detention.

The case however did not proceed to the trial stage as the first two years were spent hearing his bail application. He was finally granted bail in November 2007.

In 2011, Uwazuruike and 280 MASSOB members were also arrested in Enugu State at an event in honour of late Odumegwu Ojukwu. He was however released on orders of former President, Goodluck Jonathan.
