Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has raised serious alarm over what he described as a coordinated and retaliatory operation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following his recent public reference to Chapter 9 of the Justice Ayo Salami Judicial Commission of Inquiry Report.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, Malami alleged that EFCC operatives simultaneously raided his private residences and offices in Abuja and Kebbi State, shortly after he cited portions of the Salami Report which, according to him, indict the current EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

Malami's camp insists that the raids were not coincidental, noting that the EFCC allegedly targeted documents linked specifically to Chapter 9 of the Salami Report, without prior notice or formal communication.

According to the former AGF, the controversial chapter raises serious conflict-of-interest concerns involving senior EFCC officials, including Chairman Ola Olukoyede, who reportedly served as Secretary to the Salami Panel. Malami had previously demanded that Olukoyede recuse himself from any investigation involving him, citing alleged bias.

The statement warned that any harm to Malami or members of his team would be squarely blamed on what it described as a pattern of intimidation and retaliation, urging Nigerians and the international community to take note of the unfolding situation.
Malami's office further called on civil society organisations, human rights groups, professional bodies, and the media to demand the full and unredacted release of the Salami Report, arguing that transparency remains the only antidote to suspicion and politicisation.
This development comes amid an ongoing EFCC investigation into Malami over allegations bordering on abuse of office, money laundering, and issues surrounding Abacha loot recoveries-claims the former minister has repeatedly dismissed as politically motivated.
