Man Who Impregnated 13-Year-Old Girl, Denied Bail In Anambra | READ MORE
75-year-old Sunday Muoghalu of Umuoruka village in Awka, Anambra state, who r-aped and impregnated his 13-year-old house girl, has been denied bail and remanded in custody.

After a video of the minor went viral on social media, the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social welfare, Honourable Ify Obinabo swiftly responded which led to the arrest of Muoghalu on Sunday, December 11. On interrogation, the suspect had said he was only playing with the victim and had no intention of impregnating her.

The suspect on Wednesday, December 14, appeared before the Se-xual and Gender-Based Violence Court, sitting in Awka, on three count charges bordering on defilement, carnal knowledge, emotional, verbal and psychological abuse.

His legal counsel applied for bail on the grounds that his client is suffering from acute diabetes and hypertension, however, the presiding judge, justice Genevieve Osakwe denied him bail.

The judge argued that the rate of se-xual defilement of minors is alarming in the state, adding that Muoghalu's lawyer failed to provide a medical report supporting his claims.
The judged frowned at the action of the suspect, noting that he is old enough to be the victim's grandfather. She ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody, while mandating the prosecuting counsel to forward the police case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ministry of Justice to enable it file information before the High Court.
