Mechanic Sentenced To 6-Month Imprisonment In Maiduguri | READ WHY

The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 secured the conviction and sentencing of a mechanic, one Baba Mohammed, before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri.

Baba was prosecuted on one count amended charge of cheating to the tune of Three Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira (N310, 000.00).

The charge reads:

"That you, Baba Mohammed sometime in January 2022 with intent to defraud obtained the sum of N310,000.00 (Three Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira) from one Ifeanyi Godstime Nkem as payment for the purchase of Mercedes C300 2012 Model engine, which you failed to deliver and converted the said sum for your personal use and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 320(a) of the Borno State Penal Code Law Cap. 102 and punishable under section 322 of the same law.ÔÇØ

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge. Consequently, the prosecution counsel, S.O Saka, prayed the court to convict him accordingly.

Justice Kumaliya sentenced Mohammed to 6-month imprisonment with option of N50, 000.00 fine.
