MOUAU Women Association Launches Bus, Skill Acquisition Centre's Training Equipment

The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike Women Association (MOUAUWA), an association of the female staff of the varsity, has done a public presentation of a bus and skills acquisition centre's training equipment to encourage entrepreneurship.

The presentation of the bus and equipment held on Thursday, August 24 at MOUAUWA event centre.

In her address, Dr Mrs Nkechinyere Nkem Iwe, wife of the Vice Chancellor and president of MOUAUWA appreciated her predecessor, Barrister Dr Bertha Otunta under whose administration the skills acquisition centre was built.

She noted that the centre was built and equipped to help the female gender to be independent, adding that the sewing section of the centre is ready to kickstart as qualified persons have been engaged to carry out the training of interns.

"MOUAUWA is saddled with the responsibility of helping women and girls discover the beauty of their gender and become fulfilled in life. With this purpose in mind, we have always packaged enriching programmes for the university women and other women in our neighboring communities. Last year, during our international women's day celebration, we solicited help to enable us purchase a bus for our various transportation needs and during the same celebration this year, we asked for your support towards the equipping of our skills acquisition centre. we are excited that through your support, the two projects have been realised" Mrs Iwe stated while appreciating sponsors of the project.

Iwe said while the other sections are getting ready to kick off operation, people can hire the MOUAUWA bus for their events at a reduced price and also refer people to train at the centre.

"our women can trust us to beautifully make their outfits and we hope to also begin to make men's outfits with time" she said.

In his own address, the Vice Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, CFS, lauded the women for making sacrifices to ensure that the dream of having a bus and equipping the skills acquisition centre.

"I am glad that your labour is moving to the right direction in tandem with the vision of my administration which is recovery and stability of the university".

"I congratulate Barrister Dr Otunta and MOUAUWA for the vision of acentre where our young ladies can be trained in skills. This centre compliments the efforts of government and the university in the sense that it will operate in synergy with our entrepreneurial centre and other centre that are coming up for skills acquisition" the Vice Chancellor said.
