Roma's Manager, Jose' Mourinho has come to the defence of former Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney after he revealed he wanted "to hurtÔÇØ Chelsea players.

The Derby County manager disclosed he wore longer studs than usual at United's outing to Stamford Bridge in 2006 to prevent the Blues from getting the desired win to help clinch the Premier League title.

Mourinho, who was at Chelsea's rein of affairs at that time, however led the team to a 3-0 win against United, emerging as consecutive league title winners.

"I changed my studs before the game. I put longer studs in because I wanted to hurt someone.ÔÇØ

If Chelsea won a point, they won the league. At the time, I couldn't take it. The studs were legal, they were a legal size, but they were bigger than what I would normally wear.ÔÇØ

Sticking up for the striker, Mourinho insisted a fellow sportsman's perspective of the situation is quite different.
