My Commitment To Climate Change Issues Is Still Unwavering- Sam Onuigbo

The honourable member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal constituency, Honorable Sam Onuigbo has stated that is his commitment to issues of global climate change is still unchanged despite not heading the house of representative committee on climate change in the 9th national assembly, a position he held in the 8th national assembly.

Honorable Sam Onuigbo in an exclusive media chat with AF NEWS stated that he is currently the Vice President Global Legislators Organization for a Balanced Environment (GLOBE) and the Nigerian President of the group.

GLOBE according to him has its membership drawn from over 100 countries of the world. With the goals of supporting bills and policies that has to do with the environment ,climate change and related issues.

Honorable Onuigbo also said that he is a member of Climate Parliament, an organization with similar objectives and heads this organization in Nigeria.He however stated that the organization in addition is interested in issues concerning renewable energy in Nigeria.

He revealed that references are always made to him whenever issues of climate change arises, firstly because he chaired the House of Representative Committee in the 8th Assembly and from feedback's he is getting he was able to give it a push in the 8th Assembly. And secondly because he sponsored a bill to provide a legal framework for climate change in Nigeria.

The honorable member further stated that the bill is aimed at mainstreaming climate change actions and activities in concrete policies across board.

During the interaction with AF NEWS, Honorable Onuigbo traced most of the security challenges confronting African societies to climate change ,stating that most countries in the Sahel region are forced to migrate with cattle due to dehydration and lack of arable land.

He made a case for the railways, he recalled that growing up railway was basically the means for transporting cows and cattle's. This he said eliminated the current prevailing farmers-herders clash."This is why we need the railway now and strong infrastructures to help mitigate against the negative effects of climate change", he said.
