In a major counter-terrorism operation, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has eliminated at least 23 bandits linked to Ado Aleiro in Zamfara State during a precision airstrike targeting criminal elements in Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA). The operation, which took place over the weekend, was part of an intensified military campaign aimed at dismantling terror networks operating in the region.

According to reports from Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency platform monitoring security activities in the Lake Chad region, the mission was based on actionable intelligence gathered by security forces. The bandits, suspected to be relatives and foot soldiers of the infamous warlord Ado Aleiro, had reportedly set out to rustle cattle from nearby communities when they were ambushed by security forces.

Sources disclosed that the Ado Aleiro bandits successfully stole a large number of livestock and were making an escape when they encountered resistance from local security outfits. The troops, tracking their movement, strategically allowed them to reach a mountainous terrain before launching an assault. Once their exact location was confirmed, the Nigerian Air Force deployed its air assets to execute a precision strike.

Eyewitness accounts corroborated the report, stating that the airstrike left no room for escape, effectively dismantling the gang's operation in the area. Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, who have been actively working to rid the region of terrorist strongholds, also recovered a substantial number of rustled cattle following the operation.

The latest offensive is part of the Nigerian military's intensified efforts to cripple bandit operations, particularly by targeting their main source of revenue-cattle rustling. Security analysts have long pointed to the lucrative nature of stolen livestock sales as a major funding stream for criminal groups operating in Zamfara and neighboring states.
