In a dramatic escalation of tensions within the Nigerian Senate, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has filed a 5 billion defamation lawsuit against her colleague, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi of Ebonyi North, over what she described as false, malicious, and damaging statements made during a televised interview.

The lawsuit, filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja through her lawyer Michael Jonathan Numa, stems from comments made by Senator Nwaebonyi on Channels Television on March 6, 2025, during which he allegedly described Akpoti-Uduaghan as a "gold digger, habitual liar, and habitual blackmailer.ÔÇØ

But the most controversial of the statements - and the one that has dominated online debates - was Nwaebonyi's claim that Akpoti-Uduaghan is "a mother of six children from different men,ÔÇØ an allegation the Kogi lawmaker says is entirely false, reckless, and intentionally crafted to destroy her reputation.

"The defendant's characterization of the claimant as a 'mother of six from different men' is baseless, malicious, and indeed reckless,ÔÇØ court documents read.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who has gained prominence as a fearless voice for women in politics, accused Nwaebonyi of attempting to stigmatize her womanhood and discredit her rising political profile by weaponizing false narratives against her.
