New Minimum Wage: Abia Government, Labour sign agreement

The Abia State Government and the organized Labour in the State have signed an agreement for the payment of thirty thousand naira (N 30,000) as New Minimum Wage to workers in the State.

In a release jointly endorsed by the State Head of Service, Sir Onyi Wamah, Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Aham Uko and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. A.C.B Agbazuere on behalf of the State Government and the State Chairman, Public Service Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Chris Okoro, the State Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Uchenna Obigwe, the State Trade Union Congress Chairman, Comrade Sunny Onwuma and the State President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Comrade Nwigwe Kennedy on behalf of the Abia State Organized Labour said the payment would take effect from January 2020.

According to the release, the Organized Labour in the State has accepted the table and consequential adjustments in the New Minimum Wage which would be binding force on both the Abia State Government and the Organized Labour.
