The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has delivered a scathing verdict on the state of the nation, declaring that Nigeria has become a "land flowing with tears and blood" due to escalating insecurity, economic woes, and government failures. The Church made this pronouncement in a strongly worded communiqu├® issued after its Standing Committee Meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The communiqu├®, signed by The Most Rev. Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba (Archbishop and Primate of All Nigeria), Most Rev. Dr. Blessing C. Enyindah (Dean of the Church of Nigeria), and Ven. Dr. Paul G. Dajur (General Secretary), paints a grim picture of rising kidnappings, terror attacks, and economic hardship, fueling fear and uncertainty across the country.

Anglican Church Condemns Rising Insecurity, Government's Weak Response

The Church decried the alarming increase in attacks on villages, highways, railways, airports, and waterways, raising concerns over the government's capacity to protect its citizens. While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies, the Church stressed that more needs to be done to curb the bloodshed, secure the nation's borders, and support local vigilante groups.

"Nigeria is fast becoming a land flowing with tears and blood due to terror, devastation, and fear among the citizenry," the communiqu├® read. "Constant attacks across the country raise serious questions about the government's effectiveness in handling security challenges."
Economic Hardship: Nigerians Plunged Into Deeper Poverty

The Anglican Church expressed concern over the dire economic situation, blaming runaway inflation, high foreign debt, and the impact of fuel subsidy removal for worsening the suffering of ordinary Nigerians. It criticized politicians for focusing on their 2027 re-election bids instead of addressing urgent economic challenges, calling their actions insensitive to the plight of the people.

The Church also called for increased investment in mechanized agriculture, industrialization, infrastructure, and solid minerals to boost economic productivity and improve citizens' livelihoods.

Calls for a New Constitution, National Reconciliation Commission
Highlighting Nigeria's deep-rooted structural problems, the Church demanded the drafting of a new civilian constitution, developed by representatives of Nigeria's ethnic nationalities, to resolve fundamental issues hindering national unity and development.

It further urged the government to establish a National Reconciliation Commission (NRC) to address ethnic grievances, historical injustices, and socio-political divisions in the country.

"We call on the government to establish a National Reconciliation Commission to address grievances and promote healing. Nigeria's unity must be reinforced through justice, fairness, and inclusivity," the communiqu├® stated.
Anglican Church's Call for Peace and National Unity

Despite the gloomy outlook, the Anglican Church encouraged Nigerians to hold on to faith, unity, and peace, emphasizing that God has called His people to live in victory despite adversity.

The meeting was attended by 137 Anglican Church Archbishops/Bishops, 146 clergy, and 96 lay members, alongside prominent guests including Mrs. Angela Eberechukwu Ndukuba (President of Mothers' Union and Girls' Organizations), Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Most Rev. Dr. David Onuoha (President of the Christian Council of Nigeria), and other dignitaries. Former Primates, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Jasper Akinola and Most Rev. Dr. Nicholas D. Okoh, also sent goodwill messages.
