Nigeria, Ghana, Benin Team Up For AFCON 2025 Bid

Following the Confederation of African Football (CAF) reopening bid process for the hosting rights of the African Cup of Nations 2025, Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic is set to express their interests for the continental competition.

Nigeria and neighbors Benin Republic were previously expected to battle Algeria and Morocco for the hosting right., but their West African counterpart, Ghana are now ready to team up with them to host the continental showpiece.

"There's a discussion that Ghana should bid with the likes of Nigeria and Benin. We are still considering it. We have not taken a decision yet but there is that discussion that we should get sister countries so that we can put in that bid," Ghana's sports minister, Mustapha Ussif was quoted by Kickgh.com.

Guinea was initially granted the hosting rights of the competition, but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rescinded the decision due to lack of funds to put in place the required facilities.

It would be recalled that Ghana and Nigeria co-hosted the 2008 edition of the AFCON.

The African football governing body has set 11th November 2022 as the deadline for submitting the declaration of interest form while the appointment of host country/countries by the CAF Executive Committee will be on 10th February 2023 after various processes have be taken cognizance of.
