Nigerian govt declares June 12 as public holiday

The Federal Government on Monday declared Friday, June 12, 2020, a public holiday, to mark this year's Democracy Day.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola made this known in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Georgina Ehuriah.

Aregbesola congratulated all Nigerians at home and abroad for the entrenchment of democratic rule in the country.

He commended the heroes of democracy for their dogged determination and sacrifice which eventually birthed democratic governance in Nigeria.

Aregbesola urged Nigerians to continue to uphold the selfless efforts of the heroes and collaborate with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to ensure the realization of the democratic ideals at all costs.

He assured Nigerians of the government's commitment to battling the effect of COVID-19.

Aregbesola further advised citizens to take responsibility to curb the spread of Coronavirus by observing physical distancing and obeying other regulations issued by relevant authorities.
