(OPINION) AFCON 2023: Can Super Eagles Break Jinx?

While the nation's topflight squad, Super Eagles prepares to take on sports counterparts, Sierra Leone in a ''break it or make it'' clash at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, raging questions on what fate lies ahead for the team remain unanswered.

The Super Eagles and new coach, Jose Peseiro are looking to end their five-match when they take on the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Abuja on Thursday (today).

An alarming jinx has seen the three-time African champions evade victory since the 2-0 win against the Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau in their final group game at AFCON 2021.

The star studded team has had to settle for three loses and two draws in their last five games.

With the new managerial input of Portuguese International, Jose Peseiro, faithfuls of the national team, however troubled are hoping for a reversal of fortunes.

Peseiro who has lost his first two games since his arrival is keen on dispelling contrary opinions on his abilities to deliver in his job.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles were held to a 4-4 draw by the Leone Stars the last time both teams met in November 2020.
