Ortom Suspends Enforcement Of Ban On Open Grazing In Benue| READ WHY
On the heels of the killing of 130 persons within ten days in Benue state, governor Samuel Ortom has suspended the enforcement of the ban placed on open grazing in the state and charged herders to peacefully vacate the state with their cows within two weeks.

The temporary suspension was announced by the governor on Tuesday after a meeting with the State Security Council including stakeholders, traditional rulers and 23 local government council chairmen.

The security council frowned at the "unholy alliance" of some youths of the state with armed herdsmen to rustle cows and slaughter the animals.

The council tasked security operatives to go after those involved in the crime and bring them to book.

Governor Ortom also appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for giving a fresh directive for the killers of Benue people to be apprehended and made to face the law.

"We commend the President for condoling with Benue people as well as direct security agencies to apprehend perpetrators of this act. The Security agencies are duty bound to carry out this directive and I am waiting to see action that will culminate in to cessation of killings and restore peace in the State,ÔÇØ Ortom said.
