Osinachi's Husband Would Be Charged To Court If...- IGP Reveals

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali, yesterday said that the husband of late gospel singer, Peter Nwachukwu would only be charged to court if the autopsy on the deceased founds him culpable.

He condemned the alleged act of inhumane treatment of the popular late gospel musician, Osinachi, by the husband as witnessed by closed family relatives and independent sources which led to her death.

"The IGP stated this when he received the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Kedem Tallen, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja, yesterday.

The IGP said: "The untimely death is heart-breaking, particularly as information from sources close to the family and independent witnesses fingered her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, as being responsible for her death.

He stated that the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force, in whose jurisdiction the incident occurred, arrested the deceased's husband at about 5pm on Sunday, April 10, 2022, in their residence at Lugbe, Abuja.

He assured that the suspect is still in detention at the FCT police command, adding that investigations were still on to ascertain the cause of the death. He said that the command has approached the National Hospital, Abuja, for an autopsy examinations on the disease and that justice will serve its cause.

According to him, her husband will be charged to court as soon as it is established that he was responsible for her death.

He reassured of the commitment of the Force, under his leadership, to tackle cases of this nature, including domestic violence, sexual and gender-based violence, rape, and other social vices, and bring them to a decisive conclusion with respect to the provisions of extant laws.

In her remarks, the minister, Dame Tallen, who were accompanied by some members of the late singer's family to know the efforts the police had put in place to ensure justice is served swiftly, lamented the death of the gospel singer, saying her death has caused public uproar.
