Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has once again emphasized that no nation can develop beyond the quality of its education system, describing education as the irreplaceable foundation of sustainable national growth. The Governor made this known during the 13th Convocation Lecture of Nile University of Nigeria, held in Abuja.

Represented by the Chief Liaison Officer of the Abia State Liaison Office, Abuja, Hon. Iheanyi Frank Chinasa, Governor Otti noted that although Nigeria's education sector faces persistent and complex challenges, his administration has remained fully committed to repositioning the system through strategic reforms, infrastructural renewal, and improved learning environments.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Chinasa explained that tertiary institutions across the state-Abia State University (ABSU), Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Aba, and the School of Medical Sciences, Amachara-are already witnessing remarkable upgrades. These include newly constructed modern hostels, improved road networks within campuses, and ongoing curriculum updates to align academic programmes with 21st-century learning standards and global workforce demands.

He further highlighted Governor Otti's efforts in strengthening the education workforce through the recruitment of new teachers, as well as extensive training and retraining programmes designed to enhance classroom delivery and modern teaching techniques. The administration, he added, has also prioritized technical and vocational education, equipping students with practical and market-ready skills that will empower them to become job creators rather than job seekers.

Earlier in his lecture, the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sunday Echono, called on governments and key stakeholders to intensify efforts toward improving employment opportunities for graduates. He emphasized the need for full implementation of existing education-centered reforms to mitigate Nigeria's current economic challenges.

The convocation attracted a distinguished gathering of scholars, policymakers, industry experts, and graduating students who assembled to celebrate academic achievement and deliberate on the future of higher education in Nigeria.
