The Abia State Government, under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, has announced a major infrastructural breakthrough with the award of contracts for the construction of five strategic roads across the state-signaling yet another milestone in the ongoing development revolution sweeping through Abia.
Disclosing this at the weekly State Executive Council briefing, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, revealed that two of the projects - the 25km Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Road and the 13.1km Ariam-Usaka Ring Road in Ikwuano LGA - will be officially flagged off on Friday, October 24.

The other roads, which form part of the state's ambitious rural connectivity plan, include:

Ihechiowa-Arochukwu Ring Road (9.35km)
Isieketa-Mba Itungwa-Mgbedeala Road, Isiala Ngwa South (4.9km)

Ogidi-Umuala Eziama Ntigha Road, Isiala Ngwa North (3.72km)
According to Kanu, these projects are carefully selected to boost rural access, promote trade, and open up local economies for investment.

"These road projects are part of the infrastructural revolution designed to open up rural communities for business and economic expansion," the Commissioner emphasized.
Beyond infrastructure, Kanu also disclosed that Abia State will join the rest of the world on October 15th to commemorate the 2025 World Food Day at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, with the theme "Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future."

He highlighted that the celebration underscores Governor Otti's commitment to food security and sustainable agriculture, urging stakeholders to collaborate in ending hunger, improving nutrition, and ensuring a better future for all Abians.
