Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has sparked a major political storm after declaring that Nigeria has indeed become what U.S. President Donald Trump described as a "now disgraced nation."

Obi, in a strongly worded statement that has triggered intense national debate, said the recent wave of killings, kidnappings, and coordinated attacks across the country is enough evidence that "Nigeria has descended into a state of national embarrassment."

According to him, within a single week, 25 citizens were kidnapped, and a serving general and other military officers were murdered in cold blood - yet the Federal Government appears more focused on destroying opposition political parties than restoring national security.

Obi said the latest terror attack in Kwara State further proves that "the country is bleeding while the government is busy settling political scores."

He accused the Federal Government of deliberately fueling internal crises within the PDP, Labour Party, SDP, and other political platforms, alleging that the ruling party prefers a weakened political environment rather than a united front against insecurity.

In a reflection on Nigeria's past, Obi recalled how late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua instructed then-INEC Chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu, to ensure the stability of all political parties, emphasizing that democracy could not grow if the opposition was crippled.

Obi lamented that "what we have today is the direct opposite," adding that the current administration "thrives on fragmentation, intimidation, and calculated destabilization."

"In democratic nations, the opposition is respected, elections reflect the will of the people, and the government carries everyone along. Today, parties are torn apart because a government that should protect democracy is actively undermining it."

Obi warned that no nation can progress under violence, division, and authoritarian political tactics.
