Police Arrest Notorious Kidnappers Who Killed Businessman Despite Collecting Ransom From His Wife

Nemesis has caught up with a gang of kidnappers who kidnapped and murdered a businessman in Abia State despite collecting ransom from his family as the Police have arrested them.

All Facts News gathered that the kidnappers trailed a 37-year-old businessman identified as Uzoma Daniel to his compound along Ngwa area of Aba and kidnapped him while he was trying to drive in.

The kidnappers who arrived on a motorcycle, forced the man who had initially alighted back into his own car and escaped with him into the bush.

They later contacted the family and promised to release him once their ransom demand was met as negotiated with his family members.

After collecting the sum of N700,000 from the wife, the criminals still went ahead to kill him in Ntighauzo, Obingwa local government area of the state.

Though the information on his killing was kept away from the wife and family members, the kidnappers still demanded an extra N300,000 from the family members.

It was while the wife was trying to deliver the extra ransom that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Intelligence Response Team, IRT, attached to the Aba Area Command of Abia State who were acting on a tip-off, moved in and arrested the kidnappers.

Items recovered from them include one locally made short-double barrel gun and a pump-action.

"From what we gathered, the suspects trailed him using a commercial tricycle. They drove into his compound immediately after he (deceased) was about to drive into his compound. They ordered him back to his jeep and drove away immediately through the Ngwa road axis.

"Immediately the information got to the police, we swung into action and followed the wife without her even knowing. It was while she was going to drop the second round of ransom of about N300, 000, after she had paid them N700, 000 that we nabbed them. We arrested them and they took us to their camp in a forest at Ntighauzo in Obingwa LGA where they dumped the man's body,ÔÇØ a police source quoted by Vanguard on the matter narrated.

According to the source, the kidnappers during investigation confessed that one of the gang members who was on guard when others went to collect the initial N700,000 ransom, killed the businessman during a scuffle in which he tried to escape.

"When he was asked, he said that the late businessman fought him and bit his finger which made him shoot him to death,ÔÇØ the source said.

Meanwhile, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have abducted two lecturers at Abia State University, Uturu, on Thursday evening along ABSU-Isuikwuato road in Umuahia, the state capital.

all Facts News reports that the two lecturers who were robbed and kidnapped are Rev. Prof. S.O Eze of the Department of Industrial Chemistry and Don Chris Afulike of the Department of Mass Communication.

Confirming the incident, the Chairperson of ABSU's Academic Staff Union of Universities, V U. Nkemdirim, said the lecturers were travelling in their different cars when they were attacked by the herdsmen.
