In a major boost for students and staff of Abia State University (ABSU), the Abia State Government has successfully completed Phase 1 of its electricity restoration project within the university campus, bringing light back to several key areas.

The development was disclosed by the state's Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a media briefing at the Government House in Umuahia following the Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

Prince Kanu explained that the first phase of the power project has restored electricity to various sections of the campus, a move he described as "a significant achievement in improving the learning and living environment for ABSU students.ÔÇØ

He added that Phase 2 of the power restoration effort would commence once formal approval is secured, noting that the project is part of the wider agenda of the Otti-led administration to reposition educational infrastructure in Abia State.

In a related development, Prince Kanu confirmed that the renovation of hostels at ABSU is progressing steadily. According to him, all electrical and plumbing installations have been completed, and final touches are currently being applied. He assured that the refurbished hostel facility would be officially handed back to the university management "very soon.ÔÇØ

Students who have endured months of inadequate lighting and poor accommodation have expressed relief at the intervention, describing it as "a long-overdue rescueÔÇØ from years of neglect.

"This is the first time in years we're seeing this level of genuine attention given to our welfare. The power is back, and we feel safer already,ÔÇØ a student who spoke to All Facts Newspaper said.

This progress follows recent efforts by the state government to improve tertiary education infrastructure, including road access, digital resource upgrades, and partnerships with international institutions.

Governor Otti's administration has reiterated its commitment to restoring dignity in public institutions and delivering practical results that directly impact lives.
