Nigeria's Christian community has been thrown into mourning following the confirmed death of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, the revered founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA).

The octogenarian evangelist, aged 80, reportedly passed on after a brief illness, bringing to a close a spirit-filled ministry spanning over six decades. His passing was officially confirmed by close family sources and associates of his ministry on Monday morning, ending hours of speculation that began on social media.

Born in 1945 in Asaga, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Rev. Uma Ukpai rose from a difficult childhood marked by loss and hardship to become one of Africa's most celebrated evangelists. His conversion in 1958 after a personal encounter with God set him on a lifelong mission of preaching salvation, healing, and hope through Jesus Christ.

Rev. Ukpai's Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, headquartered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, grew into a global outreach network that organized mass crusades, healing services, and social programs in several countries. His messages emphasized faith, forgiveness, and national unity, making him a respected voice not just in the church, but also in Nigeria's moral and social discourse.
