A member of the United States Congress, Rep. Riley M. Moore, has reignited global attention on the persistent killings of Christians in Nigeria, insisting that over 7,000 Christians have been murdered across the country in 2025 alone.

Moore made the claim during an interview with Fox News, describing the killings as a silent genocide that has gone on for decades while the world looks away.

The American lawmaker's statement comes amid continued denial from the Nigerian Presidency, which has repeatedly rejected reports suggesting that Christians are being specifically targeted.

According to Moore, the alarming death toll amounts to an average of 35 Christians murdered daily, a situation he described as "a humanitarian tragedy that must no longer be ignored.ÔÇØ

"7,000 Christians have been murdered in Nigeria this year. That's 35 Christians murdered per day. It's a tragedy that cannot be ignored any longer,ÔÇØ he said.

"That's why I sent a letter to Secretary Marco Rubio urging that Nigeria be redesignated as a Country of Particular Concern under U.S. foreign policy.ÔÇØ

The lawmaker further called on Washington and the international community to take a firm stand in defending persecuted Christians in Africa's most populous nation, adding that the silence of global institutions had emboldened attackers.

Moore and Senator Ted Cruz had earlier petitioned the U.S. State Department to include Nigeria once again on the Country of Particular Concern (CPC) list - a designation reserved for nations that engage in or tolerate severe violations of religious freedom.
