MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, has denied reducing subscription fees in Nigeria, clarifying that only decoder prices were slashed amid a recent decline in subscribers.

MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv pay television in Nigeria, has denied rumors of reducing its subscription fees amid a recent drop in subscribers. According to BusinessDay, a source within the company clarified on Tuesday that only decoder prices have been reduced, not subscription fees.

The source stated, "We only reduced our decoder prices and not subscription prices."

This clarification comes as MultiChoice Nigeria is currently involved in a legal case, challenging a ruling by the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) that mandates offering one-month free subscription services and imposed a N150 million fine on the company.

The announcement follows reports that MultiChoice's Nigerian subscribers dropped by 18 percent in the first quarter of 2024. Since March 2022, the company has increased its subscription fees four times, with the most recent hike of 17 percent occurring in April 2024.
