Rivers Govt Exposes How Pro-Wike Lawmakers Are Sabotaging Supreme Court Verdict

Tensions in Rivers State have escalated as the Executive Arm of Government accuses the State House of Assembly, dominated by pro-Wike lawmakers, of deliberately obstructing Governor Siminalayi Fubara from implementing the Supreme Court's verdict on the state's political crisis.

The Commissioner for Information, Joe Johnson, made this claim on Monday while responding to allegations by the Chairman of the Assembly's Committee on Information, Enemi Alabo-George, who accused Fubara of stalling the process.

According to Joe Johnson, the Rivers State Assembly has consistently refused to acknowledge official communications from the governor, despite multiple attempts to engage them.

"There is video evidence showing how government officials tried to deliver official documents to the Assembly, but the lawmakers deliberately refused to receive them," he said.

He further revealed that some of the governor's correspondences had been made public through national newspapers, yet the lawmakers continued to act as though they were unaware of them.

The Information Commissioner dismissed the Assembly's latest allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Fubara and his deputy, stating that the executive arm has not received any official notice regarding such accusations.

He emphasized that Governor Fubara had always been committed to peace, demonstrated by his compliance with the court ruling directing the transition of power from elected local government chairmen to Heads of Local Government Administrations (HLGAs).

"Governor Fubara is ready to implement the rest of the Supreme Court directives as soon as he receives the Certified True Copy of the judgment," Johnson added.

However, rather than cooperating, the pro-Wike lawmakers responded with hostility, issuing ultimatums to the governor and the state electoral commission, a move the government believes is intended to fuel political instability in the state.

The Rivers Government also criticized the lawmakers for shifting focus to probing the Chief Judge, arguing that their latest actions clearly show they are not working in the interest of the state.

"Their moves are self-serving and have nothing to do with governance or the well-being of Rivers people," Johnson declared.

With the political battle between Governor Fubara and pro-Wike lawmakers intensifying, Rivers State faces uncertainty, raising concerns over the stability of governance in the oil-rich state.
