The political atmosphere in Rivers State heated up again on Wednesday as the state government firmly debunked widespread social media claims alleging that the Sole Administrator of the state, Vice Admiral Ibok-Etteh Ibas (Rtd.), summoned the suspended Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, for a closed-door meeting scheduled for Friday, April 18, 2025.

The state government described the viral claims as false, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to sow confusion among the people of Rivers State during a fragile political season.

In a strongly worded official statement issued by Sir Dede Sampson Friday, the Permanent Secretary from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the administration made it crystal clear that no such summons was issued.

"The Rivers State Government has become aware of fraudulent announcements circulating on social media, falsely attributed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government,ÔÇØ the statement said.

"These malicious fabrications are designed to mislead the public, create panic, and disrupt the peace in Rivers State.ÔÇØ

The fake memo, which has been making rounds online, claimed that Governor Fubara and his deputy were ordered to appear before the Sole Administrator at the Government House in Port Harcourt over appointments and other state-related matters.

However, the state government categorically branded the alleged summons as fake news, emphasizing that it did not originate from any official communication channel.

"This announcement is fake and did not originate from any official source,ÔÇØ the statement stressed. "The public is urged to disregard this and any similar misinformation, as they are the work of troublemakers seeking to destabilize the state.ÔÇØ

The Rivers State Government warned citizens to be vigilant and resist the temptation to spread unverified information, especially at a time when the state's political structure is already under strain.
