S-AD: Why I Am Into Armed Robbery - SS2 Student Tells Court |DETAILS
Abubakar Mohammed, 23 year old Senior Secondary School 2 (SS2) student in Adamawa State has claimed that he went into armed robbery to raise money for his school fees.
The suspect, a student of Demsawo Government Secondary School in Yola, the capital city allegedly broke into the house of one Maryam Jamilu at Wauru Jabbe in Yola South Local Government Area in broad daylight, threatening to kill his victim with a knife on February 11.
He was said to have made away with Jamilu's mobile phones; Spark 6 model valued at N68, 000, a mini Itel phone valued at N6,000, and N200 cash.
Days later, the victim while seeing off a visitor, sighted Mohammed, and raised alarm on recognizing him.
Appearing before a Yola Magistrate Court, Mohammed pleaded guilty to the charge of armed robbery, blaming his action on lack of fund to foot his academic bills.
According to him, his father is late and there is no one to pay for his 1st and 2nd term school fees.
The presiding judge granted the prosecutor, ASP Francis Audu's request to remand the suspect at a correctional centre to enable them transmit the case file to the state director of public prosecution for legal advice.
