Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Meets Governor Alex Otti, Explores China Power Partnership to Boost Abia's Development

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, visited Governor Alex Otti at his Umuehim Nvosi Country Home in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The visit, which included a delegation from China Power, a Fortune 500 Chinese government-owned enterprise, aimed to foster collaboration with the Abia State Government to advance key sectors of the state's economy.

Senator Kalu, also a former governor of Abia State, stated that the visit was an opportunity to extend New Year's greetings to Governor Otti and present potential partnerships for the benefit of Abia State. He praised Governor Otti's openness and readiness to engage all stakeholders, regardless of political affiliations, for the progress of the state.

Governor Otti expressed his gratitude to Senator Kalu for the gesture and highlighted the importance of unity among political leaders to achieve sustainable development for Abians. He reiterated his administration's commitment to improving the welfare of the people, emphasizing the need for collective efforts post-election.

The delegation from China Power, led by its Vice President for West and Central Africa, Tino Dong, presented their interest in investing in Abia's power sector, construction projects, and the exploration of solid minerals and gas. The team showcased their expertise, citing their successful $1.5 billion Shiroro Dam project for Nigeria's Federal Government as an example.

Governor Otti assured the delegation of his administration's readiness to work with credible investors and emphasized that such collaborations align with his vision of transforming Abia State into a hub for economic growth and innovation.

In addition to the meeting with China Power, Governor Otti also hosted young entrepreneurs Eke Urum Eke and Eleanya Urun Eke, natives of Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area. The duo proposed establishing a textile and garment factory in the state. They commended the governor's developmental strides and pledged to leverage their global networks to attract investors to the planned textile ecosystem.

The governor's entourage included the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Chibueze Nwokocha, Technical Assistant Charles Egonye, and other government officials.
