In a stunning and brutally honest letter, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former Special Adviser on Political Matters in the Office of the Vice President, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to abandon any plans for re-election in 2027 and instead allow a new generation of Nigerians to take the nation forward.

Baba-Ahmed, who resigned from his position earlier this year, delivered a searing critique of Tinubu's leadership, accusing the president of lacking vision, prioritizing political dominance over governance, and failing to inspire the nation during a period of unprecedented hardship.

In the lengthy letter made public, Baba-Ahmed disclosed that he had long harbored doubts about Tinubu's leadership ambition, citing the President's famous "Emi Lokan" (It's my turn) mantra as a worrying indication that personal ambition - rather than national service - was his primary motivation.

"After the Buhari misadventure - for which the nation still pays a heavy price - what Nigeria needed was transformative leadership, not another personal power quest," Baba-Ahmed wrote.
He expressed regret that, despite the hopes many placed in Tinubu's "Renewed Hope Agenda," the administration had so far offered little more than recycled political promises, without the vision or competence needed to rescue a battered economy and divided nation.

According to Baba-Ahmed, early warnings that Tinubu's administration could mirror - or even worsen - the failures of former President Muhammadu Buhari have proven prophetic.

He slammed Tinubu for appointing loyalists and political allies over competent professionals, stating that over half of the current cabinet had "no business managing an administration tasked with improving security, livelihoods, or public trust."

He argued that instead of plotting re-election strategies for 2027, Tinubu should focus on salvaging his presidency and restoring public trust before the opportunity slips away completely.

Baba-Ahmed concluded by reminding Tinubu that true leadership is about sacrifice, vision, and the courage to create room for new leaders - not clinging to power at all costs.
He warned that if Tinubu chose to ignore this advice, he risked spending another four years presiding over failure, or having his legacy obliterated overnight if he lost in 2027.
