STUDENTS PROTEST ARREST OF SUSPECTED CULTISTS IN PORT HARCOURT

The Police have arrested no fewer than 19 students of the Rivers State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Rumueme, Port Harcourt, Rivers State over cultism.

The development caused panic yesterday, as students of the institution protested, blocking the major entrance to the college, demanding the immediate release of the affected students.

It was gathered that complaints had been lodged with the Police by the college, over the strange activities of some students. Following the complaints, policemen had gone to the school to investigate the development and arrested the suspects.

Contacted, Public Relations Officer of the College, Mr. Paul Bazia, confirmed the development, adding "the boys were arrested by the Police following reports of cultism against them. The boys arrested were alleged to be cultists, so Police picked them for investigation.

"There is no cause for alarm because the school authorities are on top of it.ÔÇØ

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, said: "The students arrested will be released soon. We are still investigating the case. We have met with the Provost of the school; they will be released.

"But they (the students) will be made to sign an undertaking that they will not participate in such activities again.ÔÇØ
