A former Catholic nun, Rev. Sr. Anastasia Kinse, has opened a floodgate of controversy after accusing priests under the Auchi Catholic Diocese in Edo State of sexual harassment and abuse of power, insisting she has evidence to prove her claims.

Speaking during an exclusive interview on Arise TV on Monday, October 13, 2025, Sr. Anastasia alleged that she was wrongfully dismissed from her congregation after she reported incidents of sexual advances and misconduct by some priests.

According to her, the events date back to 2015, when she joined the Congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help of the Archangels Sisters, where she said she began to experience repeated instances of inappropriate behavior from priests.

"One of them invited me to spend a week with him in his parish - I declined,ÔÇØ she recounted. "Another priest wrapped his belt around my waist under the pretense of taking my measurement for clothes. When I reported these acts, I was accused of being mentally unstable.ÔÇØ

The former nun claimed that after she refused to remain silent, Church authorities began labeling her "mad,ÔÇØ eventually leading to her dismissal from both her convent and her teaching position.

"I have evidence to back up my story,ÔÇØ she said firmly, stressing that she was not making baseless allegations but exposing a system that punishes victims for speaking out.

Her revelations have sparked widespread outrage on social media and renewed calls for accountability within the Nigerian Catholic Church. Many Nigerians are demanding an independent investigation into her claims, arguing that the Church must not suppress victims in the name of protecting its image.

While the Catholic Diocese of Auchi is yet to issue an official statement, observers say the allegations may reignite debate about sexual abuse and institutional silence within religious organizations in Nigeria.

As the story continues to unfold, many are calling on the Church hierarchy and the Vatican to intervene and ensure that justice - not reputation - takes priority.
