Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion and Wrexham are all linked with free agent Dele Alli, while Nicolas Jackson gave up millions of pounds in order to leave Chelsea to join Bayern Munich this summer. Elsewhere, Andre Onana appears set to join Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan, and Aston Villa had to be careful with the structure of the deal that brought Harvey Elliott to the club from Liverpool.

Former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Dele Alli could be poised to make a return to English football, according to The Mail.

After leaving Como, Birmingham City, West Brom Albion and Wrexham are all said to be interested in the player.
The paper writes: "Birmingham City, Wrexham, and West Brom have emerged as the favourites in the beauty contest to sign Alli. The first two offer the tantalising appeal of glitz and glamour.

"Birmingham, partly fuelled by the cash and interference of NFL legend Tom Brady, have made a strong start to life in the Championship.

The forward is said to have given up a bonus he was due in order to sign for the German champions after the deal faltered.

The paper states: "Nicolas Jackson went to extraordinary lengths to make his Bayern Munich dream a reality.

"According to reports in Germany, he even waived part of a fee he was owed to get the deal over the line.

"The Chelsea striker completed a last-gasp loan-to-buy switch to the German giants on deadline day, joining on a season-long loan with a £56 million obligation to buy next summer.

"But the move nearly fell apart more than once and Jackson reportedly sacrificed money from his own pocket to make it happen.
"The 23-year-old Senegal international is believed to have waived a portion of a bonus payment he was due if the transfer went through, in order to help Bayern cover the increased fee."

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is ready to leave Old Trafford, according to The Mirror.
The stopper will first weigh up the contract offer from the Turkish side before making a decision, while Fabrizio Romano believes the deal has now been agreed.

The paper explains: "Andre Onana is said to be open to the idea of leaving Manchester United for Turkey - but has yet to make a final decision on a move to Trabzonspor. The former Inter Milan man has endured a rollercoaster couple of seasons at Old Trafford since arriving for £43m.

"High-profile errors have blighted his performances, while Onana has found himself behind Altay Bayindir this season. The Cameroonian then fell even further down the pecking order with the £18m arrival of Senne Lammens on deadline day.

"United have been open to letting Onana leave all summer, albeit he did not manage to find a new club before the end of the Premier League window. Since then, Turkish side Trabzonspor have opened talks with United regarding a loan move.

"The move would be a straight loan with a buy option. Trabzonspor now need Onana's approval to complete a move and while he is open to a switch, he still wants to review the contract on offer."

Aston Villa had to format the Harvey Elliott deal in such a way as to avoid too much attention from UEFA.

The Athletic reports on the ways that clubs are structuring their deals in order to meet financial obligations.

The website observes: "One thing to stress, though, is that the player's signing costs must be included in a club's accounts from the point an obligation to buy is triggered.

"For example, should the clause be 10 appearances and that landmark is hit at the end of October, the amortisation costs of that player signing would be included, pro rata, from that point onwards. It is not something that can be pushed back until next summer because the deal is considered done from the moment a clause is triggered. Once a deal is certain to be made permanent, clubs must recognise it as such.
"It is why Villa will have to include the sums of signing Elliott from the point he plays his 10th game, but given their greatest headache is with UEFA, the European governing body whose assessment period for its 'squad cost rule' runs from January to December, delaying those costs by a couple of months is still relevant."
