TROUBLE IN ABIA NULGE: ELECTION POSTPONE, EXTERNAL INTEREST ON GROUND

The States Delegate Conference of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE scheduled to hold in Umuahia, the Abia State Capital to elect new Executives for its Chapter in the State has been postponed till further notice.

Addressing members of the delegates at a press conference at Hotel Royal Damgrete, venue of the scheduled election, the National President of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employee [NULGE], Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel Mni, explained that a team of delegate from the National body arrived the State on Tuesday the 25th of June, 2019, so as to supervise the exercise, but found an unfavorable situation on ground in the State Chapter which will not be conducive for the conduct of the election in a credible, free and fair manner, pointing out that the delegate observed a lot of conflicting interest on ground and would like to interface with the State Executive and that of the South East for a better way to conduct a credible poll.

Comrade Khaleel further stated that NULGE constitution provided that they must be State delegate conference every four years in the various States of the federation so as to elect new Executive members and harped on the need to go back to the drawing board so as to look for better ways to conduct a credible process.

When asked to explain the reason behind the postponement of the election, the NULGE National President explained that the delegate discovered a mix feeling among the members such that if the election should go on, it will not benefit some of the members, maintaining that for there to be a successful election, all hands must be on deck and all interest carried along.

Also speaking, the National Vice President South East of NULGE, Comrade Patrick Igwe while apologizing for the inconvenience, said that a new date will be communicated to all in due course for the interest of all the members.

He explained that NULGE Constitution provided a level playing field for all her members in the course of election and its welfare, stressing that the situation on ground in the State is a regrettable one, even as he called on all the stakeholders to come together in a bid to finding a more credible way of doing things for the association.
