Dr. Uma Ukpai, describing him as a spiritual giant, philanthropist, and one of Abia's most illustrious sons. The immediate past Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned televangelist and spiritual icon, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on at the age of 80.

In a heartfelt condolence message released on Monday, Sir Oko Chukwu said the news of the revered preacher's demise came to him with "immense shock and painful devastation." He described the late Ukpai as one of Abia's most illustrious sons whose life was fully devoted to the service of God and humanity.

"Abia State, Ohafia LGA, and indeed Nigeria have lost a rare gem and a man whose impact transcended the boundaries of faith and geography," Oko Chukwu stated.
He noted that Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai was not only a spiritual leader but also a visionary who used his global platform to promote peace, unity, and moral revival in Nigeria.
The former Deputy Governor recalled with admiration the numerous contributions of Rev. Ukpai to community development, including the establishment of the King of Kings Hospital and Uma Ukpai Polytechnic, both located in Asaga Ohafia, Abia State.
"He was one of the grand masters of televangelism in Nigeria - a preacher of truth, a humanitarian, and a beacon of hope for millions," he said.

Sir Oko Chukwu urged the people of Abia, Nigerians, and the international Christian community to take solace in the fact that Rev. Ukpai lived a fulfilled life dedicated to God's service and the upliftment of mankind.

"He acquitted himself creditably while alive and will forever be remembered for his solid contributions to the growth and spiritual development of our state and nation," he added.

He prayed for God to grant the family of the late cleric, the people of Asaga Ohafia, and the entire Christian community the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, while asking God to grant the soul of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai eternal rest.

"May the Almighty God, who determines the end from the beginning, receive His servant into eternal glory," Oko Chukwu concluded.

Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, born in 1945 in Ohafia, was the founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA) and a globally respected evangelist who led several crusades across Africa, Europe, and the Americas, preaching faith, healing, and unity. His legacy continues to live on through his ministry, educational institutions, and humanitarian works.
