The people of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency have remained in high spirits since Thursday, April 2, 2026, following what many have described as the most massive and impactful empowerment programme ever witnessed in the area, courtesy of Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa.

Across communities, residents are still celebrating the unprecedented scale of the initiative, which saw hundreds of beneficiaries including women, men, and youths receive life changing support items aimed at boosting livelihoods and reducing economic hardship.

The mega empowerment programme, held at the Ohafia Local Government Area premises, drew widespread attention as Hon. Osonwa rolled out a comprehensive package that went far beyond the conventional distribution of starter packs.

Beneficiaries received a wide range of items including bags of rice, mini buses, motorcycles, generators, vulcanizing equipment, hairdressing tools, sewing machines, and grinding machines. The distribution, which cut across various sectors, was carefully designed to promote entrepreneurship, job creation, and financial independence.

However, what truly set the programme apart and has continued to dominate discussions across the constituency was the procurement and distribution of heavy-duty farming and construction equipment. Hon. Osonwa unveiled two brand new road-grading machines-a grader and a payloader specifically acquired to open up rural farm roads and boost agricultural productivity.

The initiative is widely seen as a strategic move to tackle long-standing challenges faced by rural farmers, particularly in accessing farmlands and transporting produce. By investing in such equipment, the lawmaker has effectively introduced a sustainable solution that addresses infrastructure gaps while promoting food security and employment.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Osonwa emphasized that the programme was driven by a desire to provide practical solutions to the needs of his constituents.

"We are doing what governance should be about-reducing the burden on our people and creating opportunities for them to thrive,ÔÇØ he stated.

He explained that the acquisition of the grading machines would significantly reduce the cost of hiring such equipment from private operators, as communities would only need to provide diesel for operation.

"This will open up our rural areas, enhance farming activities, and ultimately improve food production and economic stability,ÔÇØ he added.

The event also attracted top government officials, including the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Chief Ikechukwu Emetu, who represented Governor Alex Otti. He described the empowerment programme as a shining example of purposeful and people-oriented leadership.

"This is beyond empowerment; it is about helping people become self-reliant and economically stable. It reflects a leadership style that truly understands the needs of the people,ÔÇØ Emetu said.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Ohafia LGA, Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, commended Hon. Osonwa for what he described as a groundbreaking initiative.

According to him, the scale and structure of the empowerment programme mark a new standard in constituency representation.
