VIPs in Trouble: FG Orders Nigerians to Expose Police Escorts on Celebrities, Politicians and Private Individuals

A major wave of anxiety is sweeping through Nigeria's VIP circles as the Presidency has formally called on citizens to become active watchdogs and report any celebrity, politician, businessman, or private individual still moving around with police escorts in violation of President Bola Tinubu's new directive.

The call was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Daniel Bwala, during a live interview on TVC, where he announced that Nigerians now play a central role in enforcing the President's sweeping reform aimed at reclaiming thousands of police officers from VIP attachment.

Bwala urged Nigerians across the country to film, photograph, or document any VIP who continues to use police escorts despite the President's executive order.

According to him, public vigilance is now crucial in ensuring the success of the policy, which seeks to return police personnel to core security duties at a time when the country faces rising crime rates.

"If you identify a celebrity, a private sector person, or any individual who has police against the executive order of the President, capture evidence - whether a photograph or video.ÔÇØ

While many VIPs have already taken measures to blend into public spaces, the Presidency clarified that not all individuals will lose protection.

Sensitive government officials will still receive police security due to the nature of their roles.

However, private individuals, entertainers, business moguls, and politically exposed persons without official government positions are now under public scrutiny as the crackdown intensifies.

The Federal Government insists that too many officers are currently assigned to escort duties instead of frontline policing.

For months, the administration has pushed for reforms to reclaim police manpower and strengthen national security.
