The joint health sector unions, JOHESU, in Abia state has issued a fifteen days ultimatum to Abia state government to clear the arrears owed to workers of the union or risk total shutdown of the state health sector.
Addressing members of JOHESU at federal medical center umuahia, the state chairman, comrade Okoro Ogbonnaya decried the neglect of health workers in the state and called on the state government to pay attention to their plights.

Okoro lamented that health workers in Abia state have noted the systematic exclusion of them in the payment of the new minimum wage and called for the implementation of agreed 2011 consolidated health salary structure (CONHOSS)

According to him, state government is owing Abia state university teaching hospital 17 months, hospital management board 14 months and primary healthcare in LGAs 3 months.

On their part, the JOHESU state secretary, comrade Aligwe Chidi cautioned the state government the way workers salaries are slashed without due process, just as the HIV desk officer, Abia state primary healthcare development agency Ikwuano, Kelechi Orji frowned over lack of both equipment and manpower in the agency. Kelechi disclosed that they lack gloves to use during delivery, no drugs, and electricity.
