WATCH VIDEO: Labour Party Has Majority In Abia Assembly - Ceekay Igara Speaks On Crisis, Suspension
The Abia State Labour Party Chairman, Mr Ceekay Igara has countered the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that the Labour Party has the majority in the 8th Abia House of Assembly, and should get the majority leadership.
Igara in an exclusive interview with ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER (AFNEWS) on Thursday explained that though the PDP have 11 House members, the Labour Party with it's 10 members, has an edge over them with their collaboration with two House members of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) and an APC member in the Assembly.

He noted that the collaboration between Labour Party, YPP and APC saw to the emergence of Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa as the Speaker of the House and same agreement should have Labour Party retaining the majority leadership.
"We had an understanding and we agreed that we are going to work together because we want a change in the system and based on that change, we were able to elect a Speaker who is of the Labour Party; after all it is simple majority. If you add 3 to the 10 we have, that's 13; PDP has 11 members, based on that, anytime there is an election, in the House, we have majority and because we have majority, that is the greatest problem of PDP" the Labour Party Chairman maintained.
According to Igara, the drama that has been playing out in the Assembly is owed to PDP not being able to accept reality as they are still in shock over the defeat by Labour Party in the state.

Speaking on the suspension of Hon. Solomon Akpulonu, the PDP member representing Obingwa East State Constituency, Igara stated that his suspension is a control measure to bring to the notice of everyone that the House isn't the House of commotion and also to serve as a deterrent to others who may want to tow the same path of disrupting the peace of the House.

"They are seen as honourable members; with that appellation, every member of the House should be honourable in character and conduct. Akpulonu had disrupted the session of the House on two or three occasions and he was called to order; it is not a House of commotion.

"Emeruwa is a very genuine, humane and kind person; there are situations that if you are called to order, you should behave yourself; they are all mature people, they are not touts; you cannot come to the House and display that kind of loudy character; just because things are not going the way you want and you think the best thing to do is to disrupt the entire place" Igara stated.
He advised the House members to face their business of lawmaking and stop rancorous sessions which would not bring development to the state.
"We voted you to go and represent us, to do things that will reflect good living and development for the people. They have wasted a lot of time; I've not heard the motions they have moved and the things they have done; they should face the business for which they went there, not this backbiting; rancorous sessions they have been having, it won't help us, we want to develop Abia, we elected them there to make laws that will help the executive to bring to pass the kind of development we are looking for" he admonished.
