The death of one Marshall Ibeabuchi, a 200L Medical Laboratory Science undergraduate in Abia State University, ABSU, has exposed the porosity and incapable state of the institution's medical unit.
Recall that on Monday, February 22, 2021, a student reportedly died while playing a football match in the university's pavilion.
The deceased Marshall performed an acrobatics, celebrating his scoring a goal. Unfortunately, he slumped and was gasping for breath.

According to some of the students, Marshall was rushed to the school medical centre, but he was not attended to. They requested for an ambulance to move him to a nearby hospital, but heard that there was no fuel in the ambulance'.
Marshall was finally taken to a hospital far from the school, where he was confirmed dead.

Also, in a video made by some of the students who took Marshal to the school clinic, a student could be seen lamenting bitterly over the unsympathetic attitude of the clinic medical personnel.
In the video, the student said Marshall was brought to the school clinic alive, but for over 10 minutes, nobody attended to him. He explained that a doctor eventually came, but didn't attend to him still, rather the doctor was answering a call.
This incident has left people wondering why ABSU, an institution that trains both doctors and nurses should operate without a properly set-up medical unit.
