WATCH VIDEO: SOLDIER WHO ALLEGEDLY MURDERED AN OKADA RIDER ARRAIGNED IN COURT

The dismissed soldier Ajayi Johnson who allegedly killed one Chimaobi Jeremiah Nworgu, an Okada rider at Umuokereke Ngwa village in Obingwa L.G.A on the 7th of August 2019, has been arraigned at the Magistrate Court Umuahia.

Speaking in an interview with Abia Facts News, the Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Ogbonna Geoffrey explained that the Police have officially brought Ajayi Johnson to the Magistrate court on charges of murder.

He however stated that the magistrate court does not have the jurisdiction for him to be tried, stating that the case has been adjourned till 16th of September 2019, to enable the Police transfer the file to the appropriate quarters from where the case will be taken to the High Court which he said has the jurisdiction over the matter, adding that an order was given that Ajayi Johnson should be remanded in the prison.

When asked if there's an issue of conspiracy, the PPRO said there was none, maintaining that if there was, the people involve would have equally been arraigned, pointing out that the culprit did it alone.

He further said the soldier was duly dismissed, noting that in the military it is referred to as court marshal and that there was no how the culprit would have been brought to the court without first being dismissed from service.

He hinted that the case is before the court and that it is left for the court to do their job and do it the way it should be done.

Also speaking, the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Chiamaka Chimaobi Nworgu lamented that ever since her husband was murdered, she and the children has been suffering an untold hardship, and used the opportunity to call on the government to provide job for her and to ensure that justice is done in the case.

In his reaction, counsel to the complainant Barrister Ugochukwu Amaraizu said the case has been adjourned till the 16th of September, explaining that the magistrate court has no jurisdiction to handle a murder case and that the team of lawyers with the Police will go back to do the necessary thing to ensure that the case file is forwarded to the Ministry of Justice for further action, adding that when they are done, they will file an information at the High court.
