Another Max Air emergency landing! A Lagos-Kano flight crash-landed at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport after its front tire burst into flames upon landing. A Max Air flight from Lagos narrowly avoided disaster on Tuesday night as it crash-landed at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) following a burst front tire, sending panic through the cabin.

The aircraft, a Boeing 737-300 with registration number 5N-MBD, was carrying 53 passengers and six crew members when the incident occurred around 10:19 p.m..

According to Aliyu Inuwa Mansir, a passenger onboard, the front tire burst into flames upon landing, filling the cabin with smoke and forcing passengers to evacuate through the emergency exits. Fortunately, firefighters arrived swiftly to contain the situation.

Kano Station Manager, Malam Bello Ramalan, confirmed that everyone onboard was safely evacuated, adding that investigations are ongoing in collaboration with the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and the Aircraft and Equipment Department (AED) to determine the cause of the malfunction.

In an official statement on Wednesday, Max Air reassured the public that the situation was professionally managed, with no injuries recorded. The airline also announced that the runway was temporarily closed for inspection and clearance, causing delays in some flight operations.

However, in a contradictory statement, Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, stated that the runway had been reopened and normal operations had resumed.

This incident is the latest in a series of safety concerns involving the Airline. On December 5, 2024, a Max Air flight from Maiduguri to Abuja was forced to make an emergency landing after one of its engines caught fire, barely 10 minutes after takeoff.

The frequency of these incidents has raised serious concerns about Max Air's safety standards. While the airline has assured passengers of its engineering team's expertise, many Nigerians are calling for stricter regulatory oversight to prevent potential air disasters.
